종말의 시작
모든 사건의 발단은 2018년 핼러윈 데이 때 인터넷에 올라온 한 장난치는 영상으로 거슬러 올라간다. 점점 더 많은 사람들이 참여하면서 이 영상은 엄청난 인기를 끌게 되었고, 처음에는 장난을 당하던 사람들이 결국 다른 사람에게 장난을 치게 된다. 이렇게 2018년은 종말의 시작으로 기록되었다.
상사
오랫동안 전쟁터를 누빈 전투 베테랑. 군 복무 중 밀수 혐의로 군대에서 축출되었다. 바이러스가 퍼지기 전까지 선박중개인으로 무료하지만 편안한 삶을 살았다. 지금 다시 전쟁터로 돌아온 이후 더 큰 자유를 느끼고 있다.
러스티
러스티는 한때 불타는 바이크 클럽의 멤버였다. 그는 국내에서 가장 무시무시한 감옥을 돌아다니면서 엄청난 생존 능력을 갖게 되었다. 맥주가 부족하다는 점은 아쉽지만, 바이러스가 퍼지기 시작한 이후 그는 또 다른 자유를 즐기고 있다. 한 여자 생존자의 존중에 관한 문제를 둘러싸고 논쟁이 벌어지기 전까지 그는 레이더즈와 같은 길을 걸었다. 이 논쟁으로 결국 3명의 레이더즈가 죽게 되었고, 그 후 러스티는 레이더즈와 다른 길을 걸어가게 되었다.
매디
엄마와 의붓아버지와 함께 살았지만, 항상 핸드폰 화면만 보고 있어서 그들을 본 적이 거의 없다. 바이러스가 퍼졌을 때 매디는 아버지 집에서 머물고 있었기 때문에 그녀는 충성스러운 동료 프랭크와 함께할 수 있었다.
윤채희
진짜 이름을 포함해 그녀에 대해 알려진 것이 거의 없으며 그녀는 오히려 이런 점을 즐긴다. 잘 웃고 활발한 성격으로 다른 생존자들의 사기를 높여 주지만, 황무지에서 그녀의 광기 어린 웃음은 말썽을 일으키곤 한다.
고스트
고스트는 그라피티로 자신의 마음을 표현하는 것을 좋아했었지만, 지금은 불필요한 말은 거의 하지 않는다. 그는 파쿠르 마니아이자 태권도 고수이다. 그는 다른 예술가들이 꿈에서만 들어갈 수 있는 곳에 몰래 들어갈 수 있는 능력을 가졌기 때문에 고스트라고 불린다. 종종 매디와 함께 밖에 나가 구조 미션을 수행하다 보니 둘은 잘 통하는 사이가 되었다.
