一切要追溯到2018年萬聖節出現在網路上的一個所謂的惡作劇影片。這個影片十分火爆。越來越多的人參與其中，先被「惡搞」，然後再去「惡搞」别人。2018年因此被稱為末日黎明。

鏽斑·斯普林菲爾德曾是摩托俱樂部的成員。他在國內最可怕的多座監獄裡練就了出色的求生本能。他很享受疫情爆發以來的另類自由，雖然啤酒不足是一大缺憾。鏽斑起初和掠奪者同型，直到有次他們因為一位倖存者女性是否受到尊重的問題而發生了爭執，這次爭執最終導致了三名掠奪者的身亡。此事過後，鏽斑便與掠奪者分道揚鑣。
麥蒂
麥蒂·米爾斯曾經與母親和繼父生活在一起，但是她很少見到他們，因為她通常盯著自己的手機。疫情爆發時，她正在她父親那裡作客，所以她才和她忠實的夥伴法蘭克待在一起。
幸運小姐
幸運小姐是一位神秘人物，就連她的真實姓名也不為人知，但是她對此樂在其中。她活潑愛笑，可以鼓舞其他倖存者。但是身處荒野之時，她肆意的狂笑經常惹是生非。
幽靈
提姆·“幽靈”·李曾經喜歡讓他的塗鴉代他說話。現在，他則是根本不多說廢話。他既是跑酷愛好者，也是跆拳道高手。他被稱為幽靈，是因為他能潛入其他藝術家只有在夢裡才能進入的地方。他經常和麥蒂外出執行救援任務，所以與其達成了默契。
